Get your blood pumping, sweat together while apart, connect to our ancestors, and experience the joy of dancing through the rhythmic beat of the drums. This Rhythm, Moves and Grooves intergenerational class offers a mix of rhythms and movements influenced by the diaspora and migration of Africans in the Pacific and Caribbean regions of Colombia. Get your heart rate up, enhance cardio endurance, and boost your mood naturally!

The Rhythm, Moves and Grooves with LEIMAY IN PERSON class will be held at various locations in Williamsburg including Marsha P. Johnson State park, Bushwick Inlet Park, Grand Ferry Park, CAVE Home of LEIMAY (indoors) or other locations TDB. General Location will be be posted in this link each week. Exact location (where in the park) will be uploaded here on the morning of class. Please refer to this page or follow us on Facebook or Instagram for updates. The Rhythm Moves and Grooves with LEIMAY ONLINE class will be hosted on the Zoom platform. Zoom is accessible from your phone, tablet, or computer.
COVID 19 Protocol:
Currently, Proof of Vaccination is required for IN PERSON class. Participants agree to submit a Health screening and temperature check.
Masks are optional for vaccinated participants at outdoor locations.
Masks are required for this class at CAVE or any indoor locations. In accordance with the current Key to NYC mandate, as of August 17, people 12 and older are required to show proof they have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine for indoor dining, fitness, and entertainment. However, if you are unable to show proof due to disability, a reasonable accommodation may be provided in a cooperative dialogue of good faith.

Each cycle of LEIMAY classes will have an Encore class in which 100% of proceeds go to support various social justice causes. Organizations supported in the past have included: NAACP, Black Visions Collective, Brave Space Alliance, The Okra Project, and Homeless Black Trans Women Fund, Organización Nacional de los Pueblos Indígenas de la Amazonia Colombiana, Green Worker Cooperatives, El Puente, and The Loisaida Center.
About Ricardo Bustamante: Ricardo is a dancer, choreographer and Contemporary Dance teacher with training in Afro Contemporary Dance and Traditional Afro Colombian Dance. Ricardo Bustamante began his dance education in 1997 studying Traditional Afro Colombian Dance with Wilfran Barrios, director of Atabaques in Cartagena, Colombia. In 1999, he began his training in Contemporary Dance at El Colegio del Cuerpo with Álvaro Restrepo and Marie France Delieuvin. Bustamante later received his undergraduate degree in Basic Dance Education from the University of Antioquia. After several years dancing professionally for La Compañía Cuerpo de Indias (professional company of El Colegio del Cuerpo), Bustamante went on to serve as the company's sub director from 2014 to 2019. During his professional career, he has performed the complete repertory of La Compañía Cuerpo de Indias in various national and international festivals; co-choreographed Flowers for Kazuo Ohno together with Álvaro Restrepo y Marie France Deliuvin, a contemporary dance performance that has seen international success; and in 2018 Bustamante was invited by the CPI Residency Program to commission new work for the SIDance Festival in Seoul, South Korea. Bustamante recently moved to New York City.
