Bulla en el Barrio is a bullerengue group founded and led by Carolina Oliveros and Camilo Rodriguez. The group has been based in New York City since 2015, and was envisioned as a collective and a study group. Initially, Bulla en el Barrio main focus and mission, was to recreate the participative energy and vibes of the traditional rueda de bullerengue. Some of the places where Bulla has performed since then include: MoMA PS1, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Atrium, Flushing Town Hall, Kennedy Center, Queens Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Afrolatino Festival, Mi Gente Festiva, Indiana University, Wepa festival (Austin,tx), and more.

Carolina Oliveros is a singer, songwriter born in Barranquilla, Colombia and now based in New York City. She performed the traditional music with many groups in Colombia and NYC, investigating and researching the multitude of rhythms in the bailes cantados of the region including bullerengue, tambora, gaita, and millo. But also extending the research in Dominican Republic ,Puerto Rico y Cuba.

In NYC she records, performances and tours with groups she formed including: “Bulla en el Barrio” and “Combo Chimbita,” She is currently working on several new musical and dance projects with the goal of representing and showcasing her indigenous and Afro-descendant musical roots but also the cosmovisión as an immigrant.

Camilo Rodríguez is a Colombian musician based in New York since the late 1990s. He is a guitarist, percussionist, composer, and producer. He has been part of the leading traditional Colombian music ensembles in New York. Camilo is the founder of “Bulla en el Barrio”, “Combo Chimbita”, and “MAKU Soundsystem”. He has independently produced more than 15 albums as well as releases on labels such as ANTI-, Glitterbeat, NYCT, Peace and Rhythm, and Sonorama (Chicago).

Kaila Bulé is a singer, poet, songwriter and drummer from NYC that grew up in Afro-Dominican and Afro-Caribbean roots traditions. Her parents Toné Vicioso and Nina Paulino are both cultural ambassadors of Afro-Dominican roots rhythms and her mother had a music festival called Quiskeya en el Hudson for 15 years. She has performed, sang and drum for many groups across the diaspora in Palo, Bomba and Plena traditions. Through her poetry she is often asked to perform for events celebrating the Black and Indigenous liberation movements and traditions as she has a long history of activism and organizing. She is an auricular activist, herbalist and holistic health practitioner that is committed to using her spirit and voice for the collective liberation of the land and for the reverence of the sacred, divine grace and freedom.

Anthony Carrillo comes from a proud Puerto Rican musical heritage. His musical career spans over four decades across numerous prestigious stages, including performances and recordings with renowned musicians such as Eddie Palmieri, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Paul Simon, and Harry Belafonte. He has also been an integral member of the iconic Puerto Rican groups Batacumbele, Descarga Boricua, and the metal band PUYA. Some of his most memorable performances have been alongside the legendary percussionist and childhood friend, Giovanni Hidalgo. Piano legend Eddie Palmieri has referred to Mr. Carrillo as “the best bongó player in the universe.” On April 18, 2023, Anthony Carrillo was recognized by the House of Representatives in San Juan, Puerto Rico for his musical contributions to Puerto Rican culture and for serving as a musical ambassador of Puerto Rico to the world.

Under his own name, Anthony has released three CDs featuring the first recordings of Rumba from Puerto Rico. Both his Latin jazz group, AA Team, and his Latin big band, YÁMBAWA, released two extended recordings in 2018.

Carrillo plays exclusively with MOPERC percussion instruments and is collaborating with MOPERC’s owner and craftsman, Francis Mercier, on the development of MOPERC’s Puerto Rican and Cuban percussion series.

Marco Buccelli is a Neapolitan-born producer, composer and drummer based in New York.

He produced Xenia Rubinos' critically acclaimed albums "Black Terry Cat" and "Una Rosa" as well as highly regarded records for Giovanni Truppi including "Tuo Padre, Mia Madre, Lucia" which competed in Sanremo Music Festival (2022). Additionally, Marco reimagined the work of legendary Italian artist Fabrizio De André on "Nella Mia Ora Di Libertà," featuring esteemed performers Vinicio Capossela, and Mauro Pagani. A graduate of Berklee College of Music and a seasoned performer, Marco has toured internationally at prominent venues such as Lincoln Center, Moma, Pitchfork Music Festival, North Sea Jazz and Montreal Jazz Festival.

His commissioned compositions include collaborations with acclaimed visual artist Alex Da Corte and the film score for "Straighten Up and Fly Right" produced by Armando Croda and Lindsey Cordero.
